Monastery Moraca is situated 25 km from Kolasin. The church was built in 1252 by Stefan, son of King Vukasin and grandson of Stefan Nemanja.

Founded in 1252, Morača Monastery lies peacefully above the Morača River canyon, surrounded by cliffs and lush forests. This medieval Orthodox monastery is renowned for its serene atmosphere and remarkable frescoes, some of which date back to the 13th century. The monastery complex includes the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin, smaller chapels, and monastic quarters, all reflecting traditional Balkan religious architecture.

Visitors are often struck by the spiritual calm of the place, where the sound of the river and the scent of wild herbs create a truly meditative experience. Morača Monastery remains an active religious site, offering a rare glimpse into centuries-old monastic life.

According to the legend, which is presented among the local people, this monastery was made of special yellow stone, which is found in an area very far from the monastery. This stone was carried from hand to hand to this place.

The entrance to the monastery is surrounded by a high wall with 2 gates.

The most beautiful attraction of the monastery is its paintings, Raven feeds the Prophet, Elijah. Only a small part of this painting from the 16th century is now saved.

Not far away, Danilo Bridge, more famously known as Đurđevića Tara Bridge, showcases Montenegro’s engineering heritage. Spanning the spectacular Tara River Canyon, this concrete arch bridge rises 172 meters above the river, making it one of the highest road bridges in Europe. Built in the late 1930s, the bridge connects remote mountain regions and offers panoramic views of the turquoise Tara River below. Today, it is a popular stop for photographers, nature lovers, and adventure seekers, with nearby activities such as zip-lining adding excitement to the visit.

The Canyon of the Mrtvica

The river is located in the central part of Montenegro. This mountain river has carved the canyon whose cliffs rise to 1100m. Located about 35 km from Kolasin towards Podgorica, Mrtvica Canyon abounds in natural beauty with springs from Bijeli nerini, whose waterfalls flow into the river Mrtvica. Through the canyon, Mrtvica has marked hiking paths whose length is 12.5 km.

This path leads up to a beautiful stone bridge built by Prince Danilo as a legacy to his mother. This river abounds in hidden springs and waterfalls, and the water temperature during the summer is low enough that only a few can swim.
