Botanical Garden

The botanical garden was formed in 1981, at 1018 m above sea level. It is located at the meeting point of the silicate massif of Bjelasica and the carbonate masses of Sinjajevina Mountain.

When you walk through the garden, you will notice that all plant species have been labeled under Latin and, partly, vernacular names, which were taken, due to the lack of their systematic study, from literature, according to works of some eminent Balkan botanists.

The plants in the garden mostly originate from the continental mountains of Bjelasica, Sinjajevina, Moracke plane, Komovi, and Durmitor. Today, there are about 350 plant species in the garden, a considerable number of which are endemic. From the mountain range of Prokletije, the species of mountain Hajla are represented in significant numbers. Several successful attempts have been made at including some species from the highest peaks of the coastal mountains,s Rumija, Lovcen, and Orjen.

A Small Space with Massive Biodiversity

Located in the Dulovine neighborhood at an altitude of 1,018 meters, the garden covers a modest 650 square meters. However, it manages to house over 400-500 plant species brought from the highest reaches of Bjelasica, Sinjavina, Durmitor, and Prokletije.

The Healing Garden: Approximately 80% of the plants here are medicinal, showcasing the deep-rooted traditional knowledge of Montenegrin herbalism.

Endemic Wonders: The garden is a haven for rare and endemic species that exist nowhere else on Earth. Each plant is meticulously labeled with both its Latin and Montenegrin names.

This garden, a privately owned one, the only of its kind in Montenegro, is very valuable for the Botanics and scientists who are provided with a separate and more comprehensive list of the garden plant species.

The price includes an English-speaking guide and an entrance fee.
