Long Beach (Velika Plaza) is the longest beach in the Adriatic Sea (13km long, 50-80m wide). Waist-deep water, fine sand, and continuous mistral from May - October make this beach ideal for beginners and intermediate kitesurfers.
Several kit clubs with experienced instructors and all necessary equipment can offer courses and equipment rental.
At the kite center, you will find showers, toilets, sunbeds, and other seating options where you can relax between the seasons and chat with other kitesurfers.
At first sight of the delta of the Bojana River, you can taste delicious seafood in one of the restaurants.
For beginners, we can provide 2-3 hours of practical work with an instructor, a welcome drink, and use of baldachins & other beach equipment for 99 euros.
1. The "Magic" Thermal Wind
The secret to Velika Plaža’s success is its consistency. From May to September, the thermal winds kick in like clockwork.
The Maestral: Every afternoon, typically starting around 1:00 PM, a steady cross-onshore wind builds to between 15 and 25 knots.
Perfect for All Levels: Because the first 100 meters of water are waist-deep and free of rocks or reefs, it is an exceptionally safe environment for beginners to practice their first water starts. For pros, the "choppy" water outside the shallows provides natural ramps for massive jumps.
2. The Vibe: Surf, Sleep, Repeat
The beach is dotted with specialized "Kite Stations" (such as Sandbox, Kiteloop, and Dolcinium) that create a distinct, laid-back subculture.
The Infrastructure: These clubs aren't just for launching; they are social hubs with beach bars, beanbags, and sunset DJs. Most offer showers, gear storage, and "rescue boat" services.
Bojana River Mouth: Just a few kilometers downwind lies the Ada Bojana delta, where advanced riders find perfectly flat water—ideal for high-speed runs and technical freestyle tricks.
What to Wear: In July and August, the water hits 26°C, so you can ditch the wetsuit and ride in boardshorts or a bikini. In May or September, a thin 2mm "shorty" is recommended.
