SEA KAYAKING - BLUE CAVE

While many travelers visit the famous Blue Cave (Plava Špilja) via crowded speedboats, the most soulful and sustainable way to experience this natural wonder is from the seat of a kayak. Located on the Luštica Peninsula, the Blue Cave is a cathedral of limestone where the sunlight reflects off the sandy floor to create a neon-blue glow that feels almost supernatural.

The Route: Coastal Cliffs and Hidden Grottos

A typical kayaking expedition begins at Uvala Veslo, a rugged and picturesque cove that serves as the perfect launch point. From here, you’ll paddle along the wild coastline for about 40 to 50 minutes.

The "Secret" Caves: Unlike the larger tour boats, kayaks can slip into smaller, secondary caverns and narrow rock fissures that remain untouched by the masses.

The Main Attraction: Entering the Blue Cave by kayak is a sensory experience. You’ll hear the rhythmic echo of the waves and see the water turn from a deep navy to a brilliant, glowing turquoise as you move toward the center of the 300-square-meter cavern.

Why Kayak Over a Speedboat?

Silence and Serenity: Speedboats often create noise and fumes that linger in the cave. Kayaking allows you to appreciate the silence and the crystalline clarity of the water.

Intimate Exploration: With a kayak, you have the freedom to nose into the corners of the cave, touch the ancient limestone walls, and take your time snapping photos without the pressure of a boat's 15-minute timer.

Snorkeling Freedom: Most tours provide snorkeling gear. Jumping from a kayak into the glowing blue depths is far more exhilarating than stepping off a crowded deck.

Program:

The Blue Cave Kayak and Snorkeling Adventure takes you to one of Montenegro's must-see coastal spots, locally known as Plava špilja (The Blue Cave). This is a great place for swimming, snorkeling, and underwater photography, this geological attraction can only be accessed by boat or by kayak. Also, a second nearby cave can only be accessed by kayak as the opening is just 1 meter in height.

This 5-6 hour tour begins in either Kotor, Tivat, or Budva with free pickup included. A picturesque 35-minute mini bus tour along the winding roads of Lustica Peninsula and on to Uvala Veslo, a dramatic coastal feature great for swimming, snorkeling, and launching our kayaks.

Heading out we hug the coast before paddling into the Adriatic towards The Blue Cave, the largest in a series of natural excavations that can be easily entered by kayak. A unique feature of the Blue Cave is that the time of day greatly affects the undulating water's color; from light blue in the morning to dark blue at mid-day, and back again to light blue before sunset.

Kayaking to and snorkeling at the Blue Cave is the best way to explore the rocky coastline and the Adriatic's crystal clear waters. The kayaking portion of the tour lasts for about two hours after which you can continue exploring, snorkeling, or have a drink/snack at the bar at the Veslo camp, after which we ride back to Tivat, Kotor, or Budva.

Inclusions:

Local guide, Pickup and drop-off from designated meeting points, Port pickup and drop-off, Use of snorkel equipment.

Exclusions:

Food and drinks, Gratuities (optional)

This is a great tour for small and medium size groups of up to 10 people.
