JEEP TOUR, ZEKOVA GLAVA PEAK
For an unforgettable high-altitude adventure in Montenegro, a Jeep Tour to Zekova Glava Peak on the Bjelasica mountain range is an absolute must. Reaching an elevation of 2,117 meters, Zekova Glava is one of Bjelasica's highest and most accessible summits by vehicle, offering panoramic views that will leave you breathless.
The Ascent: From Valley to Sky
Your journey typically begins in the charming mountain town of Kolašin. From there, experienced guides navigate rugged mountain tracks that wind through dense pine forests, alpine meadows, and past traditional shepherd huts (katuns). The powerful 4x4 vehicles make light work of the steep ascents, transforming what would be a multi-hour hike into a thrilling off-road experience.
Views from the Top
Once you reach the summit of Zekova Glava, the reward is immediate and immense.
Glacial Lakes: Look directly down upon the stunning, emerald-green waters of Pešića Lake, one of Bjelasica's beautiful glacial "mountain eyes." The contrast between the deep blue lake and the surrounding lush slopes is truly mesmerizing.
Endless Horizons: On a clear day, the 360-degree vistas extend across the entire Bjelasica range and beyond. You can often spot the dramatic, rugged peaks of the Komovi mountains and even the distant, imposing massifs of Durmitor National Park. The distinctive telecommunications tower on the peak serves as a useful landmark and provides a sense of scale to the vast landscape.
A Journey Through Nature and Culture
Beyond the summit, jeep tours often incorporate other highlights of the Bjelasica Ring:
Traditional Katuns: Many tours include a stop at a working katun, offering a glimpse into the traditional mountain lifestyle and perhaps even a taste of local products like homemade cheese or a warm, hearty meal.
Diverse Landscapes: The route showcases Bjelasica's unique volcanic geology, characterized by its rounded, grassy peaks, which distinguish it from Montenegro's more dramatic limestone ranges.
A jeep tour to Zekova Glava Peak is more than just an exhilarating ride; it's a deep dive into Montenegro's natural grandeur and mountain culture, offering unparalleled photographic opportunities and memories to last a lifetime.
Program:
This is a one-day arrangement preferable for carrying out in the period between May and October.
The tour starts in the morning with a starting point from Kolasin. The drive goes towards Bjelasica Mountain and its marvelous peaks. We pass by the "Kolasin 1450“ ski center and ski trails, then through the Vranjak summer pasture, and next to the mountain hut.
After a short break, we continue a tour across the Bjelasica Mountain where is possible to see its peaks whose height is over 2000m. We stop at the Vidikovac (viewpoint) behind the Rupa Vranjanska summer pasture, take photos, and enjoy the beautiful views of the surrounding mountains: Komovi, Prokletije, Sinjavina, and Maganik.
From Vidikovac (viewpoint) it is possible to see the National Park Biogradska Gora, one of the last rainforests of this type in Europe. We easily overcome the serpentine and arrive near the Zekova Glava peak at 2117m.
After a short walk, we enjoy a unique view of Pesica Lake, a glacier lake, and one of the most famous "mountain eyes" of the Bjelasica Mountain. We stay there as long as our guests wish.
After that, we will stop by Eko-katun, where we will taste homemade blueberry juice, and return to Kolasin. In Kolasin we will have an organized lunch with traditional Montenegrin cuisine.
